Circle. Sofá. Walter Knoll

CircleHoy traemos la pieza:Circle is made up of four parts – two of its parts making up a semicircle, all of them creating the round sculpture. The slope of the back and the seating area make up an unbroken flow from sitting upright to lying in relaxation. The height is the one thing that remains constant. The closed or the open circle, consisting of only three parts, allowing access, creates its own space: seating in the inner circle. Change the configuration and the design allows one to sit on the outside: seating in the outer circle. The connection of convex and concave shapes results in sweeping sculptures. 1865. Founding father
In 1865, Wilhelm Knoll sets up a «leather business» in Stuttgart. The grandfather of the Knoll dynasty makes seating and upholstery of exceedingly good quality at his works. The craftsmanship of his goods is such that he is appointed «Supplier to the Court» of the Württemberg monarchy.

The post-1871 ‘Wilhelminian period’ sees furniture designs incorporating everything from Gothic to Baroque. As in architecture, a strict division is made in interior design between the engineering and looks of a piece. Furniture is still largely made by hand.
